Fear is overrated - JULY 6 2013

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
—Marianne Williamson
This is my absolute favorite quote. Over the past few weeks, in many of my conversations, I’ve felt like fear has been a constant, frustrating theme. Someone is afraid of the future, the present, the past, marriage, rejection, work, success, being alone, losing a best friend, or failing.
WELL GUESS WHAT. Fear is an overrated waste of time. SERIOUSLY. While you’re out worrying about tomorrow, you’re missing today. When you get over the fear and worry, love and happiness pour in all over the place. How could anyone deny happiness or love?
You have the power to be a hero to someone. You have the ability to make the world a brighter place. Never fear loving others and NEVER fear being loved. A higher power is real, and when you are given a blessing, you should take it and hold it tight. Never back down when you feel you should change someone’s life for the better. Never deny someone else the blessing of you because of your fear. Fear is pointless.
We are not meant to be alone. Nobody is. Regardless of past mistakes, look around the world today. At work, with friends, with family, or someone you have a crush on but are afraid to tell—tell them you love them, tell them what makes them beautiful. And for goodness’ sake, let them hug you back and tell you that they adore you and you mean the world to them. Love is worth much more than fear.
