A Cruise Wasn’t Far Enough - JUNE 9 2012

A few years ago (somewhere around the time that Willow was dating that girl that ended up dumping him and breaking his heart and making him cry), I decided to go on a singles cruise. I was SOOOO excited. It was a short 3-day cruise, but I had never been on one. I decided on a Wednesday night and was gone on Thursday morning.

Ready to set sail and meet new people (and maybe a man if I was lucky)(EW), I drove down to Cali with a few people that I didn’t know and one that I did. It was the best spur-of-the-moment plan I could have come up with. Boarding the boat and heading into Mexican territory, we had plenty on the agenda: dancing, dinners (the endless buffets are heaven), and different social events to meet people. Being on a singles cruise—and all—it HAD to be awesome.

I began speaking to the one that I had noticed first. He was nice, funny, and—how convenient—came from the same town that I lived in. Those two guys became our fast friends, and we encountered them several times on the cruise. The one guy and I ended up talking a few different times off by ourselves, while his friend and the other girls would talk and hang out not far off. In my mind I was like, “Gosh, this guy is cool, we have stuff in common, he is a good listener.” I even found myself talking to him about Willow and my experiences, and then that’s when we made the connection… get ready for it…

HE WAS FRIENDS WITH WILLOW!!!!!!!!!

And to add to that: HE SET WILLOW UP WITH HIS CURRENT GIRLFRIEND (or so he said)!!!! (Yes, the one who eventually broke Willow’s heart and made him cry.)

You can imagine my shock and horror and embarrassment from the fact that I had just poured out my soul to the one guy on the freaking planet that had to board the same boat I did, only to have him be the one I talked to and thought could have been a continued thing off the boat. Well, after figuring this connection out, he went on to explain how he introduced Willow and the girl and how cute she was. (All the while I’m thinking, Wow, thanks for sharing after I JUST told you what him and I had been through.) (gross Brittney, don’t ever over share!)

Needless to say, he invited me over once after we got home, acted like a moron, I told him what I thought of it (in a rather dramatic way), and later he and Willow were at a party with Jack where I heard I was the topic of conversation. Willow tells me that he defended me when they called me too dramatic and crazy—but I am sure he more likely just sat there quiet, not saying a word. (That sounds more like him.)

So, unfortunately, I never found love or anything from that cruise, for that matter. I will return to the seas again, but it will never be with “singles.” (Have not returned to the seas as of 2025) And if I DO encounter another single on another cruise, I will be sure that he has never set foot in any town that I or Willow have ever been a part of. I mean, for Heaven’s sake, a girl was trying to let go on a boat and still found Willow the anchor holding her down.

This entire story is so cringe. No wonder I couldn’t hold down a man. Hahaha
